Update of the Municipality of Sesto San Giovanni's Paid Parking Plan.

17/05/2023

Changes to the Sesto San Giovanni Municipality's Paid Parking Plan will be operative from 1 June 2023.

Redistribution of 500 paid parking spaces, a new pass reserved for residents even in areas different from their area of residence, new concessionary rates near intermodal hubs, reduced daily rate in the High Rotation FS area: these are the main changes to guarantee citizens greater ease of movement and accessibility to parking. Establishment of hourly disc zones with exemption for area pass holders.

The City Council gave the go-ahead at the conclusion of the technical round table with APCOA Parking Italia S.p.A, which evaluated the reports and requests of citizens, the new traffic control regulations of the Municipality of Milan and the general performance of the concession in the first 13 months.

Sesto San Giovanni, 16 May 2023 - The new provisions of the Sesto San Giovanni Pay Parking Plan, managed by APCOA Parking Italia S.p.A., the leading parking services company in Italy and Europe and winner of the Municipality's tender for the service concession until 2027, will come into force on 1 June 2023 .

The Municipal Council, in fact, one year after the entry into force and at the end of a working round table with the Concessionaire, has deliberated a series of changes that take into account citizens' requests, flow control and traffic evolution.

In summary, the changes will concern the redistribution of 500 paid parking spaces, a new pass reserved for residents in areas other than the area of residence, new reduced rates near intermodal hubs and a reduced daily rate in the FS High Rotation area. In making the changes, the approach of diversifying the needs of different users (residents, domiciles, workers, occasional travellers), the differentiation of parking spaces (on-street with parking meters or in facilities), and the traffic characteristics of individual zones throughout the day and week was maintained. Establishment of hourly disc zones with exemption for area pass holders.

In particular, changes to the Parking Plan:

  • Introduction of the new "Residenti Lavoratori/Domiciliati Pass", at €48.00 per year (i.e. €4.00 per month), which will allow only those who are resident in Sesto San Giovanni, even outside the 4 ambits (Marelli, Rondò, Stazione FS and M5) but have a centre of interest within one of them, to park freely on the blue stripes in the chosen ambit (e.g. work or domicile in the broadest sense), in the "B - Resident Protection" parking spaces.

  • 66 new paid parking spaces, in addition to the 'buffer zones' already introduced in September 2022.

  • Relocation of approximately 500 underused 'B' tariff blue spaces to areas with higher parking demand.

  • Introduction of new hourly disc zones within the paid parking areas (30 minutes from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm) where residents with an area pass will be exempted from the parking time limit. This leaves protection for residents but also allows the occasional user to park freely, albeit limited to half an hour.

  • Introduction of a new concessionary daily and season ticket rate "A2 - Attestation" distributed in the three major areas (Marelli, Rondò and FS), aimed at commuters with a maximum of €4.00 per day and season ticket €40.00 per month, in areas underused by residents, also in order to reduce commuters' use of unregulated parking spaces just outside the blue lines. The Resident Pass of those who are residents in the area will also be valid in these A2-rate zones, as well as in the B-rate stalls.

  • Modification of the on-street parking paymenttimes of all tariff zones (and therefore of the validity of Resident Passes) in line with Milan AREA B times (7:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.), in order to allow greater protection of resident parking at these times.

  • Revision of parking payment schedules in the facility (Marelli, Resistenza underground and Interscambio FS car parks) with extension of the service and payment for all days of the week 24 hours a day, with the introduction of a maximum charge of €12 per day in the underground car park in Piazza Resistenza.

And specifically the three major ZPRUs:

  • ZPRU Marelli: changes to blue parking zones in viale Edison and qt. Vittoria and introduction of new hourly disc zones; new concessionary zone at "A2 - Attestazione" rate of 4€ per day (Edison-Oberdan-Italia-Isonzo quadrilateral, Edison B.Center and Edison cross street) and extension to afternoon hours of the A - Marelli interchange rate (7:30 am - 7:30 pm) due to the Milan AREA B ZTL times.

  • ZPRU Rondò: via Curiel and viale Marelli will change to blue stripes, the parking space between Spazio Arte and Poste will return to white stripes, albeit regulated in terms of parking times with a time disc, with exemption for Ambito Rondò resident pass holders. Lengthening of Via Battisti and Via Risorgimento, stalls at the end of Viale Matteotti/Baracca dedicated to blue parking with protection for residents; new zones with A2 tariff at €4 per day (Via Rovani / Via Nazaro Sauro car park and Piazza XXV Aprile).

  • ZPRU Sesto FS: introduction of new hourly disc zones, new A2 rate zone in Via Montegrappa, for commuter parking(€4.00 per day - €40 per month - €440 per year) and new maximum daily rate in the FS High Rotation zone(reduced from €15 to €6 per day); extension of the validity of FS Interchange passes (at a cost of €60 per month and €660 per year) to the FS High Rotation car park as well, in order to meet the numerous requests for concessionary passes.

It will be possible to apply for the new PASS and season tickets starting tomorrow at the dedicated website or at the APCOA office (see below for contacts).
